How Western University’s Student Council improved student engagement on campus using Bounce
Key Takeaways
+47% more students attending campus events groups of 3 or more
+31% more total campus events attended per student
+44% more club revenue per event
84% of the student body at Western University was active on Bounce by the end of the first semester
In 2023, Western’s University Students’ Council (USC) signed a multi-year agreement with Bounce to implement the platform as the official community and events hub for all undergraduate students and their campus clubs to improve student engagement.
The USC is one of the oldest, and largest, student unions in Canada and, much like every other student union in North America, it has challenges around improving the campus experience for the students they represent.
This challenge is what led the USC to integrate Bounce into the campus life in order to boost student engagement on campus and build a stronger community.
Together, Bounce and the USC aimed to measure this as a result of:
(A) Frequency of students attending events in groups
(B) Frequency of student attending campus events
(C) The impact of hosted events on club awareness and participation
Here is what USC experienced
+15% more events attended per student
With Bounce, campus events were significantly more visible to UBC students. The radius-based social feed centralized campus clubs and activities, allowing students to RSVP to events, join clubs, and connect with other students in just a few clicks.
Further contributing to event awareness on campus, Bounce’s social app notifications were key to boosting attendance. These notifications alerted students when friends RSVP’d to an event, encouraging them to attend as a group instead of going alone. Increasing and publicizing event attendance produced an environment where students were prompted to connect with each other more often.
"I can scroll through the campus feed and see events from different clubs and RSVP right away. It’s great. At this point everyone at UBC knows what Bounce is"
- Urvee, President of Generocksity club at UBC
(2023-2024)
+16% more campus events hosted per club
With Bounce, student clubs and organizations were empowered to host more events using the platform’s quick event creation tools. Club executives spent less time creating event pages and eliminated the need to manually process and report payments.
Clubs could count on Bounce to amplify events and were generally more confident that they would hit attendance goals. Due to the fact that the platform is designed to build and nurture an engaged community of event attendees, students who attended club events continued to stay “in the loop” via social notifications and centralized feeds.
"Everything was really seamless. We also definitely have more engagement at our events since we started to sell tickets on Bounce"
- Ryanne, President of UBC’s largest social club: The CVC (2023-2024)
+51% more club revenue per attendee
Campus events were significantly easier to promote on campus using Bounce’s numerous event marketing tools. Club executives could spend less time worrying about attendance and more time investing in bigger, better and more unique event experiences on campus.
By improving the event experience for students, clubs were able to earn 51% more revenue per attendee through Bounce compared to the previous school year. This provided significant support for clubs to fund their growth on campus year-round.
